Photo of the Day (February 27th, 2019)

I love the pose of this Yellow-rumped Warbler. Sometimes their colors are hard to see or muted, but this one was bright and on full display.

These colorful birds are one of the easiest to find out in the wild. A very loud bird who is not afraid of humans. They travel in small groups, constantly talking to one another. The California Scrub-jay is slightly different than the Western Scrub-jay, and is usually separated by the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

Photo of the Day (February 25th, 2019)

What I love about this photo is the detail in the feathers as well as the water reflected sun rays. One of my favorite shots of that day!

Photo of the Day (February 24th, 2019)

While walking through the UC-Davis arboretum I saw many beautiful trees, shrubs, bushes, and plants. The landscaping was immaculate and flowed around the creek. The water was so still it was like a mirror. I wanted to show a different perspective, a tree growing “down” from top to bottom, with this reflected photo.

This Western Bluebird was posing for me on that branch when it suddenly jumped down and flew away. I barely caught this striking bird as it took off. One of my favorites from that day. Links to the gallery and video below.

This European Starling has some serious balance! It was fun watching him poke his head in to get some good treats and back out.

Photo of the Day (February 21st, 2019)

After taking the photo of the silhouetted tree, I was watching these hawks fly back and forth over the parking lot. It was far too dark to get a proper exposure of them, so I tried to capture a silhouette with the sunrise color behind them. It turned out very well! One of my favorites from this day.

Nature Photography Walkabout (February 7th, 2019)

A beautiful morning for a nature photography walkabout. I’m so glad I was able to capture the Snowy Egret, especially with it’s yellow feet! Click the photo for full size.

Photo of the Day (February 20th, 2019)

Wood ducks have always been very interesting for me. They almost don’t even look real with their sharp coloring and feathers. They are also very interesting in that they do like to go up into trees as well. This was the first time I was able to photograph one high up in the woods before.
